Union Lake
Union Lake, a 900-acre lake in the state’s south-central region, is regarded as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the state.
Crappie, sunfish, catfish, perch, and pickerel, in addition to bass, are abundant in this area.
Anglers can explore around 10 miles of shoreline as well as the lake’s deeper areas, which only reach 27 feet.
Largemouth bass and black crappie are the most popular fish species in Union Lake. Boats with up to 10 horsepower motors can be launched at the Union Lake boat ramp in the Union Lake Wildlife Protection Area.
At Union Lake in New Jersey, anglers are targeting largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed sunfish, white perch, yellow perch, and all the other freshwater fish we love to eat!.
Manasquan Reservoir
Water from the Manasquan Reservoir is used by communities and utilities.
The Reservoir also provides a natural location for outdoor activities and relaxation.
The 770-acre Reservoir is part of a 1,208-acre area with woodlands and wetlands, a 5-mile surrounding trail, fishing and boating opportunities, and a Visitor Center.
The Reservoir is stocked with big and smallmouth bass, hybrid striped bass, tiger muskie, bullhead catfish, and panfish species and is open for fishing all year.
Anglers aged 16 and up must have a state fishing license.
A license can be obtained at any local fishing supply/bait shop or online through the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.
Assunpink Lake
Damming Assunpink Creek in 1970 created Assunpink Lake, the largest of the wildlife area lakes at 225 acres.
On the lakes, only electric engines are authorized. Bank fishing is also possible along much of the shoreline.
Largemouth bass and channel catfish are plentiful. Striped bass hybrids are also stocked, with hybrids weighing in at over 5 pounds not uncommon.
There are plenty of opportunities to catch chain pickerel and black crappie while fishing.
Bluegill and pumpkinseed sunfish are both present, with the bluegill being the most abundant of the two. Brown bullheads can also be found.
Round Valley Reservoir
The reservoir is around 2,350 acres in size and is about 180 feet deep, making it New Jersey’s second deepest lake. It can hold 55 billion gallons of water. Lake trout have been stocked in the reservoir.
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife regulates the day use area, which is located north of the public boat launch.
On the reservoir, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, motor boats (up to 10 horsepower), and three chambered inflatable watercraft are permitted, but must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles if they are longer than 12 feet.
Mercer Lake
Largemouth Bass, White Crappie, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Yellow Perch, Catfish, Shad, and Musky may all be found in Mercer Lake.
The lake used to be stocked with Muskie. Anglers can fish from the banks or from a personal watercraft.
The 20-foot-deep Lake Mercer is easily accessible via the Turnpike, Route 130, and Route 195 main veins and is located in the lovely Mercer County Park, flanked by Old Trenton Road and Hughes Drive.
A paved ramp for bass boats is available, as well as a landing area for kayaks and canoes. Electricity is the only option for boat motors. Renting rowboats is available at a marina.

Although the Garden State is home to some of the most amazing ocean fishing around, that doesn’t mean there isn’t great inland fishing to be had as well.
