Nothing beats a long day of fishing, even if you never end up catching anything, but you really should always be cautious when it comes to prolonged sun exposure. The sun can feel great on your skin, but it does present a bit of danger.
If you want to mitigate the risk of damaging sun rays, one of the best and simplest solutions is to wear a sun hat while you’re fishing, and who doesn’t love the classic look of a straw sun hat?
The wide brim of a straw fishing hat will shield not only your face, but your neck and shoulders as well.
If you’ve got a fishing trip coming up where you know you’ll be out on the water for a long time, I highly recommend grabbing one of these awesome fishing hats to protect you!

HUK Men’s Blue Camo Patch Straw Wide Brim Fishing Hat
First up is a straw hat from HUK that I found to be both comfortable and very effective at blocking the sun from my face while I was fishing on the boat.
The wide brim of the hat shields your whole face and neck area from the harmful rays of the sun so that you can stay out fishing all day without coming home looking like a freshly boiled lobster!
Quiksilver Men’s Pierside Lifeguard Beach Sun Straw Hat
Quiksilver has been around for a long time, making some of the highest quality outdoor apparel on the market, and this fishing hat is no exception.
The Quiksilver Men’s Pierside Lifeguard Beach Sun Straw Hat perfectly embodies the classic look of the straw fishing hat and it also has a great looking logo on the front, as well as a drawstring to keep it from flying off of your head while you’re on the move trolling.
Definitely pick this one up if you like the more barebones straw fishing hats.
HUK Men’s Standard Patch Straw Wide Brim Fishing Hat
Hook is another one of my favorite fishing brands when it comes to apparel. The straw fishing hat that HUK makes is extremely comfortable and doesn’t let the sun burn you to a crisp.
The Quiksilver Men’s Pierside Lifeguard Beach Sun Straw Hat is made from %100 straw so it’s as lightweight as possible. You’ll forget you even have it on after a while!
This straw fishing hat also features an incredible camo pattern under the brim for added style points.
Billabong Men’s Classic Straw Lifeguard Hat
The Billabong Men’s Classic Straw Lifeguard Hat is made from %100 raffia straw fiber which is a lovely darker brown color than some of the other straw fishing hats listed here.
This hat is adjustable and hand wash only due to the fragile nature of the real straw. This straw fishing hat is the ultimate choice for a classic cap to shield your face and neck from the sun.
S A Company Summer Straw Hats Mens Sun Hat
The next straw fishing hat I want to mention is the S A Company Summer Straw Hats Mens Sun Hat. This one is superbly comfortable and will last you many years and many fishing trips.
This particular straw fishing hat is an unbeatable deal because it comes with a free neck gaiter to really keep you out of the sun.
The neck gaiter will have the same attractive pattern as the hat to match.
Hemlock Hat Co. Men’s Straw Hat
If a classic straw fishing hat is simply too boring, then you’re going to want to take a look at a Hemlock Hat Co. Men’s Straw Hat.
No one else offers the sheer variety of designs and colors when it comes to straw fishing hats.
My personal favorites are the Dry Fly and the Hendrix patterns, but there are so many more to choose that you really have to look for yourself to make a decision.
PELAGIC Baja Straw Hat Blue Dorado
Pelagic is one of the greatest fishing brands out there at the moment and they have been for a while now, in my opinion.
The Baja Straw Hat in the Blue Dorado pattern by Pelagic is truly a fine piece of fishing apparel that’s just as practical as it is cool, not to mention it’ll keep you cool, too.
Also, check out the Green Dorado pattern as well if green is more your color.
Quiksilver Waterman Men’s Dredge Waterman Straw Sun Hat
This next straw fishing hat is probably my favorite when it comes to Quiksilver. I absolutely love the leather patch on the front with Quiksilver’s classic logo.
There’s no better way to stay safe from the sun while keeping in style.
The Quiksilver Waterman Men’s Dredge Waterman Straw Sun Hat is woven and very high quality, so it won’t fall apart on you after a little wear and tear. Trust me, mine has been put through its paces.
PELAGIC Baja Straw Hat Slate Fish Camo
The other Pelagic product I have listed on here is their Baja Straw Hat in Slate Fish Camo.
This straw fishing hat features a pattern underneath the brim that’s like a slate gray camouflage pattern and it looks amazing.
Other notable features include the comfort brim in the inside to allow the hat to rest nice and snug on your head without falling off, as well as the gorgeous logo on the front featuring a marlin.
O’NEILL Men’s Sonoma Print Straw Hat
Wrapping things up, it’s the O’NEILL Men’s Sonoma Print Straw Fishing Hat. This hat is great for fishing all day when the sun is really beating down on you.
The best part is that the entire brim is black underneath so as to prevent any glare in your eyes from the sun’s rays reflecting off of the water.
I prefer this straw hat for fishing over many of the others listed here because it is actually machine washable while still being made of %100 sea straw.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to direct sunlight versus your skin, the sun is going to win every time.
That’s why it is so important to prevent possible health hazards related to prolonged sun exposure by investing in a nice straw fishing hat or a chair with a sun shade to keep you safe.
